MHFA – Mental Health First Aid (standard)
Each year 1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental illness. Many people are not knowledgeable or confident enough to offer assistance. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches people the skills to help someone who they’re concerned about.
Similar to physical first aid, mental health first aid is provided until the person receives professional help or until the crisis resolves. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses are delivered under the authority of Mental Health First Aid Australia, by MHFA accredited instructors.
Who should participate?
This two-day small group workshop is designed for adults, over 18 years, interested in obtaining skills in:
- Recognising mental health warning signs and risk factors
- Understanding risk factors for mental health problems
- Awareness of evidence based medical, psychological and alternative treatments
- How to give appropriate initial help and support to someone experiencing a mental health problem
- How to take appropriate action if a crisis situation arises.
MHFA training is available to your business, workplace, school, sporting club or community organisation. We provide the trainer and equipment, either at your venue or at ours in Nerang, Gold Coast, Queensland.
Learning Methods:
A combination of practical activities, role-play, and interaction with a mental health first aid instructor. There are no formal assessments for this course.

Angela Derks is an experienced business owner and qualified Naturopath specialising in whole-person and whole of organisation wellness across sectors and the globe for 20+ years. Angela is the course developer and Lead Facilitator of Australia’s Nationally Recognised Diploma of Wellness Leadership Qualification, exclusively available from the Australasian Sustainable Wellness Academy. Angela is keenly interested in the integration of wellness in work settings and is an active Board Member with various wellness industry and community associations focused on safety, health and wellbeing initiatives.
